How did you get into web design?

It all began in 1999. I began to be very keen on computer graphics. I've never been able to draw and now I can't. But it doesn't prevent me from implementing my ideas and carrying them down to people. Design for me has always been as a hobby. In 2004 I began to work as a radio dj for a local radio station. And we needed to make a promo-website for some event which our radio station made. I was interested in design so I offered my service. We needed a flash-website. I began to study how to create it. I did it. Some time later I did another one. I became very interested in flash, almost I love it! Then people wanted me to make them a design or a website. So it began. And now I'm developing in this field constantly.

Do you remember the very first website you designed?

It was a long time ago, I think in 2000. It was my personal web-page. My friend and I created it together. At that time we were very interested in psychology and on this webpage we wrote some articles which to our mind were very useful for Internet users. And we, ourselves, wrote some comments. In design I used light wooden surface and paper. We worked on this projectfor about two weeks, from the very morning till the night. For that moment it was the first serious and fascinating work and we did it with great sense of responsibility. It was the very moment when I felt euphoria of creation. It was great time.

Describe how your work process usually flows, how do you like to start, what are the key points to consider, etc.?

First I need to get as more information about the client and the product advertised as possible. Then I need to know who is going to be a consumer, what reaction it-s necessary to get from this design. And the creative process begins. When I create a site I have a rule: the design should be logical and at the same time I begin to think how to get the best form of it and to make the client get the information easily and clearly.

Do you submit your design works to showcase sites for reviews? How much does other people's opinion matter to you? Has anybody ever told you anything negative about your website? How do you deal with criticism?

I always try to create something to surprise or amaze Internet users. The opinion of my family, friends, beloved, professional designers is very important to me. But as a rule, I ask their during the process of creation and listen to their corrections or ideas - but in most cases I decide what to do because I have my own opinion. I like critics. It helps to develop professionally. The main point is it should be sound critics when a person can tell me about all my mistakes in details.

What do you think about Flash technology?

I adore Flash! It almost gives unlimited possibilities for a designer.

Tell us about your use of colors in your designs.

I don' t have special colors. I chose it according to the colors of the company I make design for or according to my desire. By the way, I found out that I like to use only 2-3 colors. I think the design should be simple and light. It looks more neat. But in general, colors are chosen by the concept of each project.

You're a web designer and a creative person - describe the creative process and how you stimulate yourself?

When I start to work I like to be along, to gather all my ideas. And also I need some light music for example lounge, light trance or Frank Sinatra. For each project I make a special play list in my player.

In solving problems what kinds of process or guides do you use.

The most important thing is to be patient because all the problems can be solved. All we need is time.

What are your sources of inspiration?

It comes itself. But music helps a lot. Also films, books, TV and Internet surfing help. Overall all the world around us.

What are your favorite website designs that you did and did NOT design yourself?

As for me, I don't judge my works, maybe later I will - so my best works are ahead. I like very much works of the following studios: 247 Media, Big SpaceShip, Hi-Res.

What is it you most like and dislike about being a web designer?

Most of all I like to do diving and to create websites. I know only the base of programming and it's enough for me. I don't want to learn programming languages. If the work is going to be very serious and big I involve professional programmers.

You've worked with many people. What makes for a good web team?

Due to mutual understanding. For this you have to communicate and speak a lot. Every participant of the project should perfectly understand what result it's necessary to get in creation of the project and how to create it.

What blogs would you suggest reading in order to broaden one's knowledge?

It's difficult to remember - but a long time ago I began with Mandership by Artemiy Lebedev.

What advice would you give to beginning web designers?

Challenge professionals, try to be better. This race for leadership will make you to develop.

Thank you, Fedor, for your advice and the great designs.
